Two more Lansdowne events = Two more successful fundraisers

Last week's Earth Day Concert and Lansdowne Blues events saw appreciative
crowds enjoying great music for a great cause. Thank you to the Just
Voices Choir
and Ian Tamblyn for beautiful harmonies during the the
April 20th Earth Day concert and to MonkeyJunk and the Brothers
Chaffey
for getting everyone up dancing during the April 21st
Lansdowne Blues. Neither event would have been possible without scores
of volunteer organizers and helpers. Thanks for your ongoing support.

The Strangest Dream

Missy Burgess, Clive Doucet, Stephen Richer, Chris White and friends got together at Arbour Environmental Shoppe to sing the Lansdowne version of Strangest Dream. The original lyrics were modified by Stephen Richer to evoke the kind of public space Lansdowne could be. Check out the video and the lyrics here.

Challenges and Appeals on the Lansdowne Partnership Plan

There are a lot of different things going on with Lansdowne right now, and it's hard for people to get the full picture from media coverage. In this email, we respond to some of the misleading news coverage of the zoning appeals, as well as media attacks on Friends of Lansdowne. This is a long post, but we think it is warranted to clarify the situation.

There are 7 different challenges/review/approval processes underway, namely:

1. The Lansdowne Legal Challenge about municipal governance and democratic process

2. Ontario Municipal Board Appeals relating to land use planning and zoning

3. Conservation Review Board Appeals about the De-Designation of the Horticulture Building

4. Ontario Heritage Trust Approvals Related to Heritage Conservation Easements for the Aberdeen Pavilion

5. Ministry of the Environment Approvals relating to treatment of contaminated soils

6. Design and Site Plan Approvals

7. Final Agreements and Governance models

Each is completely separate, and has a different purpose, timeline and cast of characters. None of these is settled at this time.

Update on Zoning Appeals to the OMB

Today the Glebe and Old Ottawa South Community Associations announced that they have negotiated changes to the Lansdowne Park development that will help reduce some of the negative impacts on their respective communities. The City of Ottawa has agreed to the changes on the condition that the associations drop their appeals of the zoning to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB).
